- The Algerian ivy has many toxic properties such as alpha-hederin, falcarinol, caffeic acid, and emetine.
- Consuming Algerian ivy often commonly leads to gastric upset in dogs in the form of stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. Blisters on the mouth and throat may also form, which can make swallowing food or water difficult. Skin contact with the plant may cause skin allergies.
- Rarely does ingestion of the Algerian ivy result in severe poisoning. Some serious clinical symptoms of the conditions to watch out for are slow heartbeat, convulsions, and coma.
