Risks

- The coffee plant can irritate the skin, mouth, and throat of dogs. It inflicts a burning sensation and causes blisters, rash, and hypersalivation. This can make eating and drinking difficult for dogs.
- The poisonous compounds of the plant are also stomach irritants. They can induce stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and nausea. In some cases, they can also affect the heart and central nervous function of dogs, resulting in arrhythmia, depression, and seizures.
