- The whole desert rose contains a toxic sap, which is released when chewed or bruised. In Africa, arrows are dipped in the sap to make them poisonous.
- Ingesting any parts of this plant can result in vomiting, diarrhea, and hypersalivation in dogs. Extreme cases can potentially lead to cardiac problems.
- The desert rose sap is a skin irritant that can cause blistering and inflammation on the skin of canines.
