- The gympie stinger is regarded as the most painful plant in the world. The plant is covered with fine epidermal hairs made from silica. If they come into contact with dogs' skin, they break and release venom.
- The fine hairs of the gympie stinger can be carried away by the air and inhaled potentially causing respiratory issues in dogs. There were reports of dogs succumbing to the strong toxins of the Gympie stinger.
