Risks
- Klamath weed has a naturally occurring toxin called hypericin. Exposure to the compound can result in photosensitivity, blistering, and lesions in dogs.
- Ingestion of the plant may induce side effects like vomiting, diarrhea, inappetence, and fever. In severe but rare cases, coma and fatality may occur.
- Long-term consumption of or exposure to Klamath weed increases the risk of liver damage and skin cancer in dogs.
