Risks
- The lily of the valley contains saponins and about 40 cardiac glycosides, making it extremely poisonous to dogs. These compounds are present in all parts of the fruit, including its flower, berries, and especially the roots.
- When ingested, the lily of the valley can cause digestive issues in the form of diarrhea, bloody stools, vomiting, and stomach cramps. Other clinical signs of lily of the valley poisoning are heart arrhythmia, abnormally slow heartbeat, and seizures.
