- Several parts of the mayapple including its roots, stems, leaves, and fruits contain the toxin podopyllotoxin. Consuming them can cause fever, lethargy, hypersalivation, vomiting, and diarrhea in dogs.
- Coming into contact with the toxic parts of the plant can lead to skin irritation and inflammation in dogs.
