Risks
- The ornamental pepper is a part of the nightshade family, which is notorious for producing the toxin solanine. Although all parts of the plant are toxic to dogs, its berries are the most poisonous.
- Ingesting the ornamental pepper can cause stomach problems such as abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. In severe cases, heart arrhythmia, paralysis, and seizures may take place.
- Chewing on the leaves and berries of the ornamental pepper can irritate the mouth and airways of dogs.
