- The ASPCA deemed the ornamental sweet potato vine as nontoxic to dogs. However, it should be known that while the leaves, stems, and tuber of the plant are not poisonous, the seeds contain LSD-like compounds.
- Ingesting the seeds of the ornamental sweet potato vine will cause a hallucinogenic effect on dogs. Other symptoms include diarrhea, stomach upset, nausea, excessive urination, and in worse cases, seizures.
