Risks
- The sweet pea plant produces the toxic compound aminoproprionitrite. The highest concentration of this toxin is found in the mature seeds of the plant.
- Ingesting small doses of the sweet pea can result in lethargy, vomiting, and diarrhea in dogs. Severe symptoms like tremors and seizures may occur if the plant is consumed in large quantities.
