- The seeds and pods of the wisteria contain high concentrations of lectin, which makes them the most poisonous parts of the plant.
- The wisteria's bark and vine produce the toxin westerin. Ingesting it in large amounts can induce poisoning in dogs.
- Dogs suspected of consuming the plant should be closely monitored if they show signs of wisteria poisoning. These include vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal pain. Lack of treatment can result in dehydration, which can lead to extreme dehydration and consequently, collapse.
