Can dogs eat Corn?

Caution. Dogs can eat corn in small amounts as an occasional snack, but the cob must always be kept away. Swallowing a corncob can cause a dangerous intestinal blockage and may become life-threatening. Always serve corn off the cob and in moderation.

Benefits

Corn is a source of fiber.
Corns also contain omega 6 fatty acids.
Corns are rich in protein and vitamin E.
They also have beta-carotene, which acts as an antioxidant.

Risks

Sweet corn and other corn varieties are generally recognized as safe for dogs to eat; however, some dogs may be allergic to GMO corn and may experience stomach inflammation when consumed in large amounts.
Corncobs are dangerous to dogs because dogs cannot digest them. They are a choking hazard and can cause intestinal obstruction and perforation when ingested.

Servings

When giving as an occasional snack, choose organic, non-GMO corns. Boil or steam the sweet corn without seasoning. Remove the corn from the cob before serving.
Corn should not be part of your dog's regular diet; it is a high GI food that could cause chronic inflammation.
