Overview
Caution. Ripe elderberries can be safe for dogs in small amounts, but other parts of the plant including the leaves, stems, roots, and unripe berries are toxic. These parts contain cyanogenic compounds that can release cyanide, which is dangerous to dogs. Only feed ripe elderberries in moderation and with care.
