Can dogs eat Cicely?

Caution. Cicely can be beneficial for dogs as it promotes healthy kidneys with its diuretic properties and contains iron to support blood circulation. However, foraging this herb in the wild is not recommended, as it can be easily mistaken for the toxic poison hemlock.

Benefits

Cicely is not known to be toxic to dogs or any other animals.
Cicely has mild diuretic properties, which help eliminate toxins in the bloodstream.
Cicely contains iron which is an essential mineral for circulating oxygen-carrying red blood cells.
The whole cicely plant has been used for cooking and as herbal remedies for humans; the leaves and seeds are used for treating coughs and flatulence. The roots are used as topical antiseptic treatment.

Risks

Consuming cicely may trigger allergic reactions in dogs with food allergies or food sensitivities.
Cicely is similar in plant morphology to poison hemlock, so be extremely careful when foraging for cicely.
There are no direct studies that have been done on the suitability of feeding cicely to dogs.
