Yes. Rosehip seed oil is safe for canine consumption when administered in small doses. It can be given orally, topically, or diffused in the air. Rosehip oil can help get rid of skin allergies and alleviate arthritic pain in dogs.


  • Rosehip oil can be ingested, used topically, or in aromatherapy.
  • Rosehip oil has anti-inflammatory properties that help in preventing and treating arthritis when applied to affected areas.
  • When used topically on the skin, rosehip oil helps in treating skin allergies. It also and nourishes itchy and dry skin and snout.
  • Rosehip oil is a popular ingredient in dog shampoos as it can help moisturise the coat and skin.


  • Ingesting too much rosehip oil can cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.


  • Although rosehip seed oil can be applied directly to the skin, it's recommended to dilute it first with a carrier oil using a 1:1 ratio. You can also use rosehip seed oil that's formulated for pets.
  • For small dogs, add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of diluted rosehip seed oil to the dog food. Medium-sized dogs can have 1/2 to 1 teaspoon and large dogs can have 1-2 teaspoons of rosehip oil.
  • Apply 1-3 drops of diluted rosehip seed oil directly to new or old scars and minor wounds. To use it as a conditioner, add a few drops on your palms, rub them together, and stroke the dog's coat. A few drops of this oil can also be added on dog shampoos.
