- The Chinese yew is one of the most poisonous varieties of yew trees. There were cases of animals that died within 15 minutes of ingesting parts of the plant.
- The Chinese yew contains alkaloid taxine, which can badly impact the cardiovascular function of dogs. This poisonous compound is found in the bark, leaves, and seeds of the plant. Its concentrations tend to increase during the winter months.
- Dogs that consumed any parts of the yew tree may experience breathing difficulties, convulsions, nausea, seizures, vomiting, tremors, and diarrhea. Without proper treatment, they may eventually succumb to acute heart failure.
