Risks
- All parts of the common box have steroidal alkaloids. Its leaves, particularly, have high concentrations of the toxin. Ingesting the plant can cause nausea, hypersalivation, dizziness, diarrhea, and lethargy.
- Excessive doses of the common box may result in more severe adverse effects such as seizures, paralysis, convulsions, coma, and heart failure.
- Exposure to any part of the common box puts dogs at risk of experiencing skin irritation, itchiness, and inflammation.
