- The Indian pink contains around 14 toxic agents including lobeline, lobelanine, and norlobeline. Ingesting the plant can cause hypersalivation, stomach cramps, heart arrhythmia, and diarrhea.
- Consuming large amounts of Indian pink can lead to the manifestation of more dangerous clinical signs such as depression, convulsions, and paralysis.
- The Indian pink seeds produce the poisonous compound lysergic acid diethylamide, which can cause hallucinations and drowsiness in dogs. Ingesting two seeds can be lethal to some dogs.
