Risks
- Persian cyclamen has natural-occurring compounds called terpenoid saponins, which not only cause skin irritation but also poisoning in dogs.
- The toxins are present in all parts of the plant including the flowers. However, the root or tuber has the highest concentrations of these dangerous chemicals, making this part more deadly to dogs.
- Ingesting small amounts of cyclamen can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and hypersalivation. If the plant is consumed in large amounts, severe toxicity symptoms may arise like heart arrhythmia, paralysis, and seizures.
