- All parts of the Spanish broom including its stems and seeds produce the toxins cytisine and sparteine. They can cause hypersalivation, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps if consumed by dogs.
- Serious cases of Spanish broom poisoning may induce seizures, paralysis, and respiratory failure in canines.
