Can dogs eat Fontina?

Caution. Fontina cheese contains relatively low levels of lactose, making it less likely to upset dogs with mild lactose intolerance. However, it’s still high in fat and sodium, so it should only be offered occasionally and in small amounts. Overindulgence can lead to weight gain, digestive trouble, or even bladder stones.

Benefits

Fontina is dense in protein, calcium, and an antioxidant called selenium.
Cured cheeses such as fontina have minimal amounts of lactose. Unlike other cheeses, it has fewer chances of instigating adverse reactions in lactose-intolerant dogs.

Risks

High in fat and sodium, feeding fontina to dogs regularly or in excess can lead to a slew of health issues from unhealthy weight gain to bladder stone formation.

Servings

Fontina is not the healthiest option as a dog treat. Should you share some of it with your dog, do so in small amounts occasionally.
Avoid giving fontina cheese to dogs with kidney problems and pancreatitis.
