Risks

health-risks
  • Dim sum refers to a variety of small Chinese dishes, both savoury and sweet, including dumplings, steamed buns, spring rolls, and rice noodle rolls. It was born in southern China, particularly in Cantonese-speaking communities, such as Guangdong Province and Hong Kong.
  • Dim sum is not healthy for dogs as many of the dishes are made with fatty meats, like pork, duck or beef, which can upset a dog’s stomach or result in pancreatitis.
  • Fillings can contain garlic, onions, scallions or chives, which are all poisonous to dogs. In dogs, this ingredient can bring about haemolytic anaemia.
  • Many dim sum dishes are salty or include monosodium glutamate (MSG) which is harmful to dogs. Too much salt can result in vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, seizures and death in severe cases. Dog may also experience neurologic symptoms as a result of eating MSG.
  • The dumpling wrapper is made of refined wheat flour, which is generally not poisonous, but devoid of any real nutrient and can make dogs gain weight and or get blood sugar spikes if taken frequently.
