Risks
- Cardboard cycad contains several toxins including cycasin and b-methylamino-l-alanine. When consumed, dogs may experience bloody vomit and diarrhea, jaundice, and extreme thirstiness.
- Severe symptoms of cardboard cycad poisoning in dogs are liver failure and coma.
- The seeds of the plant are highly poisonous to dogs. Consuming 1-2 pieces of them can result in acute toxicity. Clinical signs tend to appear within less than an hour after ingestion.
