Instructions

  1. Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Rinse the green beef tripe with water.
  3. Completely pat it dry using paper towels.
  4. Slice it into 1-inch strips and arrange them neatly on the lined baking tray.
  5. Dehydrate these green tripe dog treats at 158 degrees Fahrenheit for 13 to 15 hours. Then serve them to your furry pal.

Note

  • Green tripe chews have a long shelf life if stored properly. Placing them in an airtight container at room temperature makes them last for up to 1 month. Keeping them in the fridge keeps them fresh for 2 to 3 months.

Ingredients

Instructions

Preparing the leaves:

  1. Wash the cabbage leaves with water.
  2. Prepare a large bowl of cold water.
  3. Fill a medium-sized pot with water and bring it to a boil.
  4. Place the leaves inside and let them blanch for at least 2 minutes.
  5. Drain the cabbage leaves and transfer them into a bowl of cold water to prevent them from cooking further.
  6. Wait until they are cooled before draining them using a colander. Then stack them neatly on a large plate.

Making the filling:

  1. In a colander, wash the brown rice under running water. Set aside.
  2. Heat a large saucepan over medium heat.
  3. Pour in 2 tablespoons of olive oil and add the ground beef tripe. Sauté for 4 to 6 minutes.
  4. Add the brown rice into the saucepan and sauté for approximately 2 to 5 minutes.
  5. Add the dill, eggs, black pepper, parsley, and salt. Carefully mix until well combined.
  6. Pour in the chicken broth and let it simmer for about 5 to 7 minutes or until the broth is completely absorbed and the rice is parboiled.
  7. Allow the rice mixture to cool down completely before assembling the leaf-wrapped green tripe dog treats.

Assembling the dog treats:

  1. Drizzle the bottom of a medium-sized pot with the remaining olive oil.
  2. Use torn cabbage leaves to line its entire bottom. Doing so helps prevent the dog treats placed at the bottom from getting burnt during cooking.
  3. Put a cabbage leaf on a clean, flat surface. Make sure that its veiny side is facing you.
  4. Place a tablespoon of the filling at the bottom of the leaf.
  5. Fold the lower part of the over the filling towards the center. Then fold two of the leaf’s side flaps toward the center. Roll it upwards to form a burrito-shaped leaf.
  6. Repeat the process until all the cabbage leaves contain filling.
  7. Transfer rolled-up leaves into the pot, seam down.
  8. Arrange them side-by-side as tightly as you can to keep them from unravelling. Once you are done lining up the first layer, arrange the second layer above it.
  9. Place an inverted plate on top of the leaf-wrapped green tripe dog treats to prevent them from unravelling.
  10. Pour in water just enough to cover all the treats.
  11. Put the lid on the pot and bring the water to a boil.
  12. Lower the heat to medium-low and cook for 30 to 40 minutes or until all the water is absorbed.
  13. Place the treats in a container with a tight lid and store them in the fridge overnight before offering them to your canine companion.

Notes

  • Be careful not to overstuff the leaves with filling. Otherwise, they might burst open when cooking.
  • Keep in mind that brown rice expands as it cooks. Thus, when rolling the leaves, do it tightly but make sure to leave a bit of room. It ensures that rice cooks properly.
  • Do not slip placing the inverted place on top of the last layer of leaf-wrapped green tripe dog treats. It stops them from floating inside the pot and falling open when the water boils and simmers.
  • Place leftovers in an airtight container. They can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days.

  7. Move on to making the next circle of grated cheese. Make sure that it is an inch apart from the first circle.
  8. Do the same process as you did before. Repeat until you have filled the lined baking sheet with cheese.
  9. Top each cheese circle with a tablespoon of ground green tripe.
